Surf Club Pathway
In accordance with SLSA requirements, your child participates in the age group according to their age at midnight on 30 September.
In order for children in the same school year to train with their friends, nipper members may train one age group up from their designated age group, however this is strictly at the discretion of the relevant age manager and is contingent on the child meeting the swim proficiency requirements of the higher age group.
SLSA rules do not allow nippers to compete in age groups other than their own.

Flippers - Under 6 and Under 7
Flippers participate in fun activities on the sand and in the water, with an emphasis on being safe at the beach. These age groups rely heavily on parent help. A parent MUST be with their child during water activities. A flipper is a child who attends school, but it not 7 years old by September 30th.
Nippers - Under 8 to Under 14
Nippers include age groups U8 to U14. Children participate in a program recommended by Surf Life Saving Australia. There are opportunities to participate in Carnivals around Tasmania. Whilst this is encouraged, it is not compulsory.
Once children reach the U14 age group, they have the opportunity to attain their Surf Rescue Certificate (after their 13th birthday). This enables them to assist on patrol at our beaches, provide water safety and participate in senior carnivals in the U15 age group.
Members of this age group are eligible to be selected as Nipper Club Captains.
Seniors - Under 15+
Under 15 year olds move into the senior section of our club. They are required to complete their Bronze Medallion and assist in patrols if they wish to compete in carnivals. Senior carnivals offer events for U15, U17, U19 and Open.
